The party line is a special social feature of Payphone Tag that connects multiple agents into an open conference call. Any agent can join at any time from any Telstra public payphone by entering the party line PIN instead of their personal PIN.

How to use

When prompted by the Operator for a PIN, the caller enters 72789 instead of their own personal PIN. On the phone keypad, this number corresponds to the word PARTY using the standard letter-digit assignments. This drops the caller into an open conference call with any other agents who have done the same at any other payphone across the country.[1]

The party line PIN is publicly documented and is intended to be shared. It is one of the few PINs in the game that is not personal or secret. The Gameplay page uses it as the primary example of phone keypad mnemonics: "the PIN for the special party line is 72789, which can be represented as PARTY".[2]

Purpose and scoring

The party line does not award any points and does not register a capture on any payphone. It is purely a social feature. Its main appeal is the novelty of speaking in real time with another agent who is standing at a different payphone somewhere in Australia. Whether anyone is on the line at any given moment depends on other agents independently calling in at the same time.

Notes for players

Because the party line uses the Operator's same call flow as a normal capture, the payphone screen will show FREE CALL once the call connects, just as it would for a regular capture call. This is normal. Agents using the party line will not receive a rank announcement from the Operator, as no capture is being registered.
